How To Install VLC Media Player on CentOS, RHEL and Fedora

VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player. Its useful to play music and videos on system. This article will help you to install VLC on CentOS, RHEL and Fedora Systems.

Step 1: Setup Required Repository

For installing VLC media player, first we need to add ATrpms yum repository in our system, which contains the vlc packages. In order to add this repository create /etc/yum.repos.d/atrpms.repo file and add following content as per your operating system.

For RHEL/CentOS/SL

[atrpms]
name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - ATrpms
baseurl=http://dl.atrpms.net/el$releasever-$basearch/atrpms/stable
gpgkey=http://ATrpms.net/RPM-GPG-KEY.atrpms
gpgcheck=1

For Fedora-

[atrpms]
name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - ATrpms
baseurl=http://dl.atrpms.net/f$releasever-$basearch/atrpms/stable
gpgkey=http://ATrpms.net/RPM-GPG-KEY.atrpms
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
Step 2: Install VLC using Yum

Install LVC media player using following yum command on your system with required dependencies.

# yum install vlc
Step 3: Start VLC

To start VLC media player, go to Applications Menu >> Sound & Video >> VLC Media Player
